Paul - "THEY SAY I'M AFRAID TO MARRY!"

Extra! Extra! A feature story that's just been released ̶ for you! And it's all about Paul!!!!

Article from Star Time Magazine

"I'm going to marry Jane Asher," Paul announced one day, awhile ago, to a newspaper reporter. And the talk started.

"He'll never do it," some people spoke out. "He's already had enough chances and hasn't done it. This is just a publicity stunt. He'll never marry her!"

Others smirked and said, "This is just another in a long line of 'Paul's-getting-married' scares. But the real scare is in Paul. He's afraid to marry! He's afraid it'll ruin him!"

Through all this, Paul smiles blandly, almost as if the talk didn't bother him at all.

"I've heard it before," Paul explained. "The names were changed, but the subject matter was the same type of thing. I heard it about John, only it was too late. I heard it about Ringo. Now it's my turn."

Paul crossed his legs and lit a cigarette. He looked around the room and smiled.

"I like to think," he told us, "that my fans wouldn't desert me if I got married. I'm just as entitled to my happiness as the next person. And I think that the people who say differently aren't being fair to my fans. My fans will understand more than the grownups will."

We are glad to hear Paul say that. We knew he was right.

"But maybe the people who said I'm afraid to get married are right, too." Paul continued. "Getting married is a big step. You have to be ready for it ̶ for spending the rest of your life with one person. I guess I am a little scared of that. I guess everybody is."

Paul gave us a sly wink and smiled broadly.

"There are so many new problems," he went on. "Remembering to take out the garbage, buying food for two instead of for one, getting used to stockings hanging in the bathroom at night, sharing drawers and closets. Yes, it's kind-of frightening, now that you mention it. But maybe it's kind-of fun, too?"

Paul may have been kidding about his "big problems", but there was some truth in what he was saying. Marriage would be a big step for him. At the very least, it would change his life completely.

"I have no intention of marrying until I think ̶ until I know, rather, that I'm ready," Paul insisted. "Let people say and think what they want to. One day, they'll wake up and I'll be married. I don't know when right now. When I'm ready ̶ that's all I can say. And when the girl I marry is equally ready."

Ready or not, Paul, we're all for you. And we can't think of a nicer husband than the one you'll make!
