Heather McCartney (Heather Louise See, born December 31, 1962 in Tucson, Arizona, to Mel and Linda See)
Heather is the biological daughter of Linda (nee Eastman) and Melville See, an American geologist. However, her parents divorced after 18 months and after raising Heather on her own for several years her mother married Paul McCartney of the Beatles in 1969, when she was five, and formally adopted by McCartney through legal process. Also in 1969, Heather appeared in the Beatles movie Let It Be.
A sister, Mary, was born in 1969, followed by another sister, Stella, in 1971 and a brother, James, in 1977.
During the '70s, Heather and her siblings accompanied her parents around the world with Wings until 1980 when Wings stopped touring. In 1981, Heather won a Young Printer of the Year Ilford award for a photo she called 'Waterfall.' During the early 1980s, Heather dated musician Billy Idol.
In the 1980s, Heather moved to Arizona to live with her biological father, Mel, where she became interested in ceramics, later returning to England to work as a potter.
In 1995, Heather's mother Linda was diagnosed with breast cancer. For the next few years she seemed to be recovering. Sadly though she died on April 17 1998 in Tucson, Arizona. The whole family had been on vacation. Heather was at her mother's side when she died. Heather called Mel afterwards. Later in the year Heather was a bridesmaid in her sister Mary's wedding.
To date, Heather remains a prominent British potter and designer, with exhibitions in New York, Phoenix, Tokyo, Paris and Sydney, and has been described by Wedgewood as 'one of Britain's most exciting new talents.'
In line with her mother's beliefs, Heather McCartney has interests in ecology, animal rights and native peoples.
On March 19, 1999 Mel committed suicide. Heather entered herself in a clinic to deal with her emotional problems and depression.
Before Mel died Heather had revealed her new line of houseware products in Atlanta, Georgia with Paul at her side. Before his death Heather acknowledged Mel as having a life long influence on her but said that she considered Paul her true father.
In 2002 Paul remarried to Heather Mills. Although Heather and her siblings attended the wedding there have been statements that the children do not get along with their stepmother. Paul and Heather both deny any friction.
Currently Heather lives on Paul's Essex estate in England. She keeps a low profile and continues to work as a potter which she is now famous for in England. She is very close with her family calling them all "exceptionally talented people." She is an aunt to three nephews, two by her sister Mary and another one by her sister Stella.
