Jason Starkey (musician, b. 19-Aug-1967, with Cox)

Second son of Ringo Starr and Maureen Cox. Jason was born, during the "Summer of Love" in 1967, at Queen Charlotte’s Hospital in London on 19 August 1967 and it was his mother who chose his name. Also known as Jay, his parents divorced when he was 7 years old, his mother, Maureen, had custody of Jay, his older brother Zak and younger sister Lee with Richie having visitation rights.

In the mid 1980's he was with Buddy Curtis And The Grasshoppers. He was then part of the band "The People's Friend".

With less of a public profile than his older brother, Zak, he became a road manager for a time and then took up drums in the footsteps of his father and brother, although he was not as successful as either. He was once to comment: ‘Being Ringo’s son is the biggest drag in my life. It’s a total pain.’ In 1987 he was caught stealing a car stereo and fined £125 and in 1989 appeared in court twice on drugs charges. In 1995 he was playing drums in a pub band.

However Jason mostly stayed out of the public eye- however he was arrested for drug possesion twice and stealing a car radio. For a brief time, he was in a band with his brother, playing drums for Musty Jack Sponge and the Exploding Nudists. Jason continued to drum for various bands. In the mid 1980's he was with Buddy Curtis And The Grasshoppers He was then part of the band The People's Friend and the Empire of Sponge (with former members from The People's Friend) who released a CD single in January of 2003. In 2003 they appear in and around London and Brighton.

On December 30, 1994, Jason was at his mother's side with his family when Maureen died from complications of luekemia.

Jason lives in England with Flora and they have a son, Louie, who was born in 1999.
